taking *a moment* to love life on the beaches...

g'day from the beaches on this gorgeous friday...

it's the end of the week...& i'm taking *a moment* amongst the day to day...

just a moment...

to love the small things in my day amongst the endless essential other things...

a moment before the school run- a cup of tea on the balcony amongst the herbs & lavender...

a moment to really love our life...where we live...

a moment on the phone, to the husband...just saying hi...love you...

a moment sorting the washing back on the front balcony in the sun...

just a moment amongst the everyday...

when i get a little overwhelmed with everything that still needs sorting after our move back from England to the beaches...i take *a moment* a few times a day, to just reflect on life whilst doing the essentials- it's a little like meditating- but keeping the pace going...

i don't think i'm really one to totally stop to often...so this *taking a moment* really works for me...

you should try it...if you need it...just *a moment*...

happy weekend all- we've got a birthday party rocking this place on Sunday...

love a party...getting our bunting on!

see ya monday lovelies

Anzac Day...we remember...

Anzac Day 2012

Lest we forget

Australia's day to remember those who have protected us...

a day to reflect on the amazing strength of our country...
to thank the men & women who have given their lives for our incredible country...
to thank the men & women who continue to protect countless people on foreign shores...

we caught a ferry from the beaches into the city of Sydney...

we talked about a great grandfather from Wales, who gave his life when his boat was torpedoed & all lives were lost...

we took a minutes silence with many Sydney siders who had turned out to remember our service men & women...

the people who have fallen in battle...& the Australians who continue to watch shores afar...

Australia's history...& Australia's future...

we swelled with pride...

i watched our babies, big & aware, & i swelled with pride...

our day began on the beaches...so very early walking the puppy...

& ended with a heart of thanks...
a love for the Australian spirit...
an immense, overwhelming pride in our country...
& a renewed respect for all those *Aussie's* that put others before themselves...
the essence of the true *Australian spirit*...

we walked with our most Australian of pups with pride...

Lest we forget...

~~~~~
take time to thank those that have protected your shores
with three children, i can't imagine how the mother's & father's of those that gave their lives for their countries, across the world, cope with the loss...
but i hope that remembering those amazing souls helps those families for generation to come...
Lest we forget...
beach living & warm Autumn rain...
morning from the Ark!
it's raining again on the beaches of Sydney today...which i have to say part of me loves...
i had a *Make-it-Monday* project to share with you, but as it's the last day of school holidays
with the kiddo...i thought i'd share our morning...
rain or shine- having this on our doorstep allows everyone to get some space when we need it...
there is something wild & beautiful about the ocean in the rain...fresh water & salt water...
nature in a different light- the elements flying into your face, the wind, the rain, the warm air...perfect for a puppy & kids...
perfect for a mama who's again at the last day of school holidays for a while- a mama who loves having her house full of kiddos & noise...
pounding through water- with a crew in tow, when you could be snuggled up on the sofa with a cup of something hot & a movie reminds me of my childhood....
the fresh air, & the exercise, in the warm rain makes coming home all the lovelier...a hot shower to wash off the sand & salt water...a sleeping puppy at ones feet...kiddos in snuggling clothes...
i love that we can live in this moment with our kids, after living on the other side of the globe...after falling in love with the English countryside & the wonderful lifestyle of lakes & farmland that brought to our days...
this photo below- Sol with Miss.Lola- will forever make me smile...
a boy & his dog...
a rainy day on the beaches...
sandy salty skin & fresh air...
how blessed are they to spend their school holidays doing what others only dream about...
whatever nature throws at us- we will never take this for granted...
the Lucky Country...
happy monday whatever nature is throwing at you....
ps- thanks for all your comments & emails- i've been having problems returning messages- i'll be sorting that tomorrow when the house is *kiddo-free* again...xx
Coastal Autumn decorating...simple & warm...
happy friday sweet bloggy friends...
i've not been feeling *fantastic* the last two days- & have spent a little of this time trawling through images on my laptop...
it makes me feel constructive without actually doing anything much...
these are from last spring, filling the kitchen table of our big old house in the English countryside...
the one that couldn't be more different to our little sandy floored, white weathered house here on the beaches...
although there has been much shleping of bits around the house, with all the rain the Australian coast line has been getting...
lotsa loads of washing not being hung on the line- but bunged endlessly in the dryer...
a wet puppy to take walking & then calm down...
big warming casserole's on the stove top...
Autumn days are really here on the beaches...
i'm looking forward to the small changes this brings...but i could do with much less flipping rain...we're living like Noah on his ark- god knows how he did it with two of each animal in tow!
yes...these gorgeously blue blooms were from spring in the English countryside...
i loved filling the house in ol'Blighty with blooms- endless colour on those grey days & an extra shot of colour when the sun did shine...
i love filling the house here too...our little beach house is all white walls & dark floorboards...& this year, our first back on the Coast here in Sydney, i want to embrace the seasons we do get...
the small changes between seasons i'm going to really mark this year- it's something we loved to do living in England...embracing the seasons...
it doesn't take much to change even the simplest of beach houses to embrace the seasons...
introducing a little colour is the easiest cheapest way to change the feel of any room...
& i'm always up for a room *move-around*- even when the room has only been in place since one may have leapt off the plane from England a few days before Christmas....
so here on the Coast, we are filling vintage potato baskets with big Autumn leaves collected whilst puppy walking...
we're making shell & Autumn leaf collections...side by side...
a little more brown in our white beach cottage...a little bit of rich warmth...
warm timbers...chippy collected beach items alongside our Country treasures...
*rope-wound* old oars...
vintage cane chairs dragged indoors...
wool throws on the linen couch...
many of you bloggy friends are heading into what i hear has been a gorgeous spring- but from years of living in the beautiful but changeable countryside of England, i truly know that each day is a blessing...
when the sun is out...daffodils growing by the truck load can lead you to think that the cold days are behind you...when one is from Australia, living on the other side of the globe- one can take a while to cotton on that each day of spring is a delight not to be taken for granted...
here in Australia- as we embrace Autumn, it seems each day without rain is a blessing & likewise, not to be taken for granted...
between you, me & anyone who will listen to my moaning, this is not what we came back to the beaches for...endless awful constant  a little rain each week...so embracing the change in season is giving me us a focus away from the wet weather...
cheap & cheerful...simplicity at it's best...
are you changing your little old beach cottage for Autumn?
or
bringing the Spring indoors with big bunches of blooms as the weather warms up?
...wherever you are my side, or the other, i hope you're embracing the seasons...
let me know how it's going at yours
chippy crates- beachside finds...
morning y'all....
*cleanup*- ladies it's so worth talking about- an Australian tradition...
a provider of many an up-cycled/re-cycled piece in our house...
so...the way it works, if you are not from our shores, is that local councils determine a day for the houses in their *area* to put their *rubbish* curb side, to be collected by them on a set morning...
but...before that *pick-up*... other locals can trawl through have a look through the neighbourhoods goodies & take any piece they feel they could *up-cycle*...
it may sound foreign to some of you- but it's been a tradition all through my life time...& one happily adopted by all- to the point that i divide my *clean up* into two piles...
one that's worth looking through & one that really is just rubbish...
this is my *find* from yesterday...
it's a time when those that can see past the old...to the chippy & lovely, really come into their own...
& it's so so great for the environment...
for me, a road side cleanup find became my now very-loved-new-to-our-little-beach-house-mag-rack...
it just so happened to be the perfect width for our side table- a find from our English village...
this room is slowly coming together since our move home to the Coast of Oz, from the English countryside...
our country life is merging with our beach lifestyle...i'm feeling more & more settled the more i unpack & the more we merge the two...
if you're on the beaches...& needing a re-cycling fix...
i'll let you know where to loiter roadside next!
i may even share a chippy find or two...
it'd be fun to do it together...
happy wednesday gals
